(UN)MEASURABLE WATER, 8 contemporary artists reflect on the relationship between people and water in our region

Saturday October 22nd 2022 t/m Sunday March 5th 2023

In 2022 we celebrate 900 years of water management in the Netherlands and the 700th anniversary of the Water Board Woerden. We also commemorate the disaster year 1672, now 350 years ago.

Stadsmuseum Woerden has invited 8 contemporary artists to visualize the relationship between people and water in our region. The artists all live and work in the Netherlands, but have different nationalities and backgrounds. They work in disciplines ranging from photography, video art, painting and textile art to installations and 3 dimensional work.

They’ve al given thought about the theme. About men's frantic attempts to control and utilize water, but also about the danger and power of water.

The history of our water-rich country teaches that total control over water is an illusion. One wonders whether, instead of starting from a makeable nature, we should strive to live with nature and allow space for water.
